Week-by-week early signs
Pregnancy weeks are counted from the first day of your last period (LMP).
Weeks 1–2 (pre-ovulation)
No symptoms yet, you're not technically pregnant. This is your cycle leading up to ovulation.
Week 3 (conception)
- Possible implantation cramping (sharp, brief)
- Light pink/brown spotting (implantation bleeding)
- Heightened sense of smell starts for some
Week 4 (around expected period)
- Missed period
- Sore, heavy breasts; tingling nipples
- Mild fatigue
- Faint positive on early tests (10–14 DPO)
- Metallic taste in mouth
Weeks 5–6
- Nausea begins (with or without vomiting)
- Strong food aversions or cravings
- Frequent urination
- Extreme fatigue
- Mood swings, weepiness
- Bloating, constipation
- Increased cervical mucus (creamy white)
Weeks 7–8
- Peak nausea for many
- Visible breast changes (darker areolas, Montgomery tubercles)
- Headaches from hormonal shifts
- Vivid dreams
- Excess saliva (ptyalism)
- Round ligament twinges
Weeks 9–12
- Mild bump starting (more in subsequent pregnancies)
- Nausea may begin easing toward week 12
- Energy slowly returning
- Skin changes, glow, acne, linea nigra forming
- First trimester ends at week 13
