Why grounding works

Overwhelm pulls you into the future or the past. Grounding uses the senses to return you to the only place your body can actually be, which is here.

The practice

  • Plant both feet flat and feel the floor push back
  • Breathe in for four, out for six, three times
  • Name five things you can see
  • Name three things you can hear
  • Name one thing you can touch, and touch it slowly

Afterwards

Do not expect the feeling to vanish. Grounding lowers the volume so you can choose your next small step.

Plant this thought

You are allowed to come back to your body whenever you need to. It has been waiting.
