Take a breath. You are safe here. We will walk through everything together, one petal at a time.

So, what is a period?

A period is when your body gently lets go of a soft inner lining that grew inside your uterus during the month. The uterus is a small, pear sized space inside you that prepares a cozy cushion every cycle. When it is not needed, your body releases it as a little bit of blood through your vagina. That release is your period.

The menstrual cycle

Your cycle is the full loop from one period to the next, usually around 21 to 45 days for teens. Your hormones rise and fall like the tide. Around the middle, your ovaries may release a tiny egg (this is called ovulation). If nothing meets that egg, your body releases the cushion. Then the cycle begins again.

Your cycle in four soft phases

Menstrual

Your period, day 1 of bleeding. Rest is encouraged.

Follicular

Energy rises, the body prepares an egg.

Ovulation

An egg is released, often around mid cycle.

Luteal

Hormones shift, you may feel more sensitive.

Your period is a beautiful and powerful part of being a woman. Be kind to yourself, you are growing into something wonderful.
